I don't wonder. I know.
Below is an email I just received from my electrical engineer (enginerd) father (and it makes me wonder what they’re working on, shifty eyes):
And you wonder why I want to move to the back woods of Montana.
Love,

An artist has asked me (a few times now) if I will participate in a 60 second video in a series that he is putting together. I would be asked to describe, in 60 seconds, my anger toward a particular person. The camera is the “person”, and I can say whatever I want to them to let them know I’m angry. Whatever happens, happens. The only thing he asks is that I don’t break the...

This enrages me greatly.
1. General lowering of moral standards
2. A rise in infidelity, and illegitimacy
3. The reduction of women to objects used to satisfy men
4. Government coercion in reproductive matters

1. Depends on how you operationalize the term “moral standards”; to me it would be inherently immoral to NOT provide birth control and other forms of...

Carrying around my “home” on my back since Sunday. Hiking backpack, sleeping bag, 2 pairs of clothes, some food, and a few legal documents. It’s interesting when you have a job, phone, and a laptop, but no safe place to inhabit. And I’m oddly calm about it, which makes me wonder.
You win this round, NYC…you win this round.

First off, Red Lotus is a complete gem in an entirely nondescript old factory building in Crown Heights. I can’t wait to go back. Secondly, until last night I hadn’t been in the same dark, alcohol-infused room with so many truly beautiful people in a long time. There were a few moments where I was giggly and smiley due to the beauty I was enveloped in. And third, all of the bands were...

Special
First “special” biking moment of the day: making a valiant attempt to bike in the snow on unplowed bike lanes/streets.
Second “special” biking moment of the day: thinking I am so incredibly clever for figuring out that I could zip tie my tires to mimic snow chains, only to realize I have rim brakes so this WILL NOT WORK EVEN A LITTLE BIT. Tomorrow’s...

Wanderlust.
Ok, scratch the June ride. New plans.
NYC to Montauk century ride early May. Possible (fingers crossed) Jasper to Banff tour early September. More biking, hiking, camping, kayaking, climbing, yogaing, juggling, and wandering in between!

Contemplating joining a Team in Training for a June 16th Century ride. Good idea? Neutral idea?
This weekend has compelled me to increase my hardcore-ness a tiny bit. Because being a hardcore badass is just so much damn fun.

Important Staff Meeting
“It has been brought to my attention, by a few different staff members…that Nicole is shorter than we expected. The peep holes installed in our doors this past week, put in by facilities so we are no longer forced to blindly open the door to potentially crazy people, are too high for her to see out of. A few decisions must now be made. Should we ask facilities to install a second,...

New Year, New Mantra.
About a month ago I stumbled upon this quotation: “Never, ever insist yourself to someone who continuously overlooks your worth.” I immediately fell in love with it.
For the past 2 years, in lieu of making a New Year’s resolution, I chose a New Year’s mantra. Something to aspire for throughout the year, to repeat to myself when things became a touch bleak, and something to allow to...

Holiday gifts, freegan style.
Tonight a friend gave me tomato chutney made from dumpstered tomatoes from one of our December dives as a “holiday” present. The lovely glass was even wrapped in dumpstered wrapping paper.
Clearly this is filled with win. And vegan deliciousness.

Gogol Bordello gives great life lessons, yo.
“Revolution is internal, and evolution isn’t over… If we are here not to do what you and I wanna do, and go forever crazy with it, why the hell are we even here? There was never any good old days, they are today, they are tomorrow. It’s a stupid thing we say, cursing tomorrow with sorrow. When we stand here in a row looking like a bunch of heroes, I know that deep inside,...
